LABRADOR VOTES TO PROTECT

UNBORN CHILDREN

H.R. 36 Would Prohibit Abortions at Stage

When Unborn Babies Can Feel Pain

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Rep. Raúl Labrador (R-ID) voted for H.R. 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act today. This bill, which passed the House, prohibits abortions of unborn babies 20 weeks after conception, with limited exceptions. At the 20-week mark, unborn children can feel pain, according to substantial medical evidence. Rep. Labrador, a cosponsor of H.R. 36, released the following statement:

“I am strongly pro-life. The federal government’s most important responsibility is protecting human life, including the lives of the unborn. Additionally, we have a moral obligation to minimize pain and suffering – especially for the most innocent among us. I am proud to support H.R. 36 and I will continue doing all I can to promote a ‘culture of life.’”

The United States is one of only seven countries that allow abortions after 20 weeks. At the 20-week mark, anesthesia is used in fetal surgeries for patients still in utero. For premature babies born at this stage, special care is given to reduce their pain.
